The first morning camping I awoke to the melodious sad song of the loon, the scurrying of little furry critters in the bush and of the rustling of shiny poplar trees, all while lying in the arms of my beloved. I didn't stop smiling for days. Sigh. We visited with old friends, family (meeting a nephew I haven't seen in 20 years was a definite highlight ), and played tourist by spending a day in Toronto at the Royal Ontario Museum, and another day in Ottawa touring Parliament Hill. Also had a nice chat with ~BenoitAubry
. We spent a day appeasing my husband's geneology obsession by searching through graveyards .
We saw lots of animals, including moose, black bears, loons, snakes, llama, porcupines, raccoons, eagles . . .
We roasted marshmallows and hot dogs, had foil dinners, and went hiking and swimming.
While intense family time was the goal, after 3 weeks in a 12 x 12' tent trailor with four of my sons and my husband I am admittedly tired of saying,"Because I am a girl!", of listening to Weird Al Yankovic and the Arrogant Worms, of being the one who makes the other five people eat vegetables ("But we are on vacation!"), of acknowledging that fire is not a toy and that we cannot burn everything, and especially not siblings!

Observations:
1. Nature's colour palette is infinite. How can one forest have so many greens?
2. A wasp in an empty pop can sounds like a cross between an electric shaver, boiling water and an angry maraca.
3. Apparently someone passed a law and forgot to tell us about it, stating that all campers must have a minimum of two dogs--at least one of whom is loud and annoying.
4. Wildlife is just that--except for that time we were cleaning up and I did my best Cinderella call/song/yodel and one little chipmunk ran out and stood in front of me. Too funny.
5. Mosquito bites, sunburns, bruises, bumps, scrapes, flat tires (two of them), broken glasses and the hours we spent waiting for construction on desolate northern roads are sooo worth it .
6. Berries (blue, black, rasp)are the bestest when you pick them yourself.

Things I have missed and am looking forward to:
1. Seeing my girls and grandbabies
2. Seeing my kitties
3. Peeing in my own bathroom
4. A bubble bath
5. School? Mine and theirs
6. Technology
7. dA
8. You
9. Not walking into a local grocery store and feeling like I need to say, "Really, I just look like this because we are camping!"
10. For my mosquito bitten legs to heal enough so that I can shave my legs.
11. Anything pink
12. Jewellery
